Essential Health: Paddock Counseling has Skilled Mental Health Services for All Ages and Needs

People like Katrina (Trina) Paddock have the sheer determination to overcome obstacles that would stop most in their tracks.  Like overcoming cancer.  And living with extreme vertigo as an outgrowth of brain surgery that has left her dizzy “every day, all day” since 2016.

But, with daughter Brenna Edwards and a cast of skilled, compassionate professionals, she has built Paddock Counseling, a team of private counselors and therapists for in-person or telehealth support, operating from newly expanded offices on the 2nd floor of Cadillac’s Old City Hall, located at 201 N. Mitchell Street.

“I want Paddock Counseling to be a blessing to our growing community because of the good work we do and the healing processes we support,” says Trina.  “We want people to know us as a place that can help people with their journey, as a place where they can heal.  We also want to be known as a team that loves and values one another as much as our clients.”

Members of the team are highly trained to help people recover from drug and alcohol abuse, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles and more.  They work with children, adolescents and adults of all ages.  Since forming the business in 2010, Trina has grown the business to include four full-time and five part-time counselors and two interns who will likely become counselors.  Brenna handles personnel and financial matters and is actively recruiting additional counselors to join the team to help respond to the growing demand.  Learn more about Paddock’s team and the services they provide at paddockcounseling.com.

“We ran out of space at the end of 2023,” says Edwards.  “Banks turned us down to expand our facilities and then we ran into Venture North and Annie Olds.”

“We were pleased to lend a hand with capital to help expand their facility to accommodate their growth and expand their impact on the health of the greater Cadillac region,” says Venture North Business Development Manager Annie Olds. “Their business brings essential services to the community with a high level of experience, talent and commitment. And the business is committed to a workplace that is sustainable and a positive experience for all.”

“Our full-time staff have access to quality health care, dental and vision insurance, short-term disability insurance, life insurance and a retirement program,” says Brenna.  “The health and welfare of our colleagues is a top priority.”

What will the future bring?

“While we are recruiting additional counselors and therapists, we are also supporting the development of our interns hoping they too join us as full-time practitioners in the future,” Trina says.  “And we’d love to have a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse at some future point as well so we can provide the full range of services to our clients.”

“It’s such a critically important business to Cadillac or any other community,” said Venture North President Laura Galbraith.  “The needs and demands for quality mental health and counseling services are growing at a rate that often outpaces available services.  Paddock Counseling continues to put all the right pieces together to succeed as an anchor to the health and welfare of Cadillac and the surrounding region.”
