Client: Maxx Disposal
0.5 Jobs Retained
Janice and Harold already had a lot on their plates between his school bus driving by day and nights at Short’s Brewery and her full-time cleaning job, but they were also pursuing their dream of owning their own trash removal business. With a significant customer base built over their first 18 months, they realized purchasing a garbage truck would significantly increase their bottom line while continuing to serve their community with great rates. They approached Venture North for a loan and in addition to the loan are receiving valuable business and financial management services.
“It takes a lot of strategy to know what your community needs and how to give it to them. You’re not just picking up their trash, you’re providing a service. There’s an elderly woman who cannot bring her trash a quarter-mile down her driveway and no other trash company would help her out. Not only do we park at the end of her driveway and walk to get her trash, but we have also helped remove her car off the side of the road when she had slid off her driveway. In bad weather we will bring her some basic groceries and even stop at the pharmacy to bring her medicine.”
What keeps them going? It’s always been Harold’s dream to own his own business and provide for his family. “Someday, Harold will be able to quit his two full-time jobs and just have Maxx Disposal as our main source of income,” says Janice, “Harold says the stinkier the trash, the better, but I have to disagree there!”
